Trusted Traveler Programs
Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, you may want to consider enrolling in a trusted traveler program. These programs can help you to expedite your airport experience. These programs allow you to enjoy faster airport clearance and expedited security lines. There are many options available to you. Some of these programs include TSA PreCheck and Global Entry.
Global Entry
Global Entry is a trusted traveler program that expedites the screening process for international travelers. This program allows travelers to skip the long security lines at airports and speed through the screening process by providing biometric information and submitting fingerprints. Applicants must complete an application for Global Entry and submit to a background check and interview. The wait for an interview can range from months to a year.
Eligibility for Global Entry varies from country to country. In general, people must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and Dutch nationals to be eligible. Additionally, individuals who hold a passport from other countries may qualify for Global Entry if they are a member of that country’s NEXUS program. Applicants must complete a background check, pass an interview, and maintain a clean record. Those who violate these requirements may lose their membership privileges.
CLEAR
The CLEAR trusted traveler program is a great way to expedite airport security checkpoints. For a relatively low fee, it can save you hours at the airport. The program works at dozens of airports and combines the convenience of PreCheck and Global Entry. However, as more people join the program, lines have been increasing.
The program works by using biometrics such as fingerprints or iris scans to validate your identity before you enter a building. It also allows for direct screening of your bags at TSA checkpoints. The program is also available at stadiums and event venues across the U.S. It costs $179 per year. Members of the AFAR can get the program for $149 with the promotional code “AFF149”.
FAST
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) offers several trusted traveler programs for travelers, including SENTRI and FAST (Canada and Mexico). These programs enable members to be prescreened by the government and receive expedited screening for travel and trade. They also allow members to access expedited lanes at international and U.S. airports. Each program offers different benefits.
Members of the FAST trusted traveler program can use their cards as a form of identification when arriving at airports in the United States and Canada. This eliminates the need to wait in long lines at security checkpoints. Additionally, these cards can be used as proof of citizenship while studying or working in Canada.
